First & foremost get your blood sugar checked & if high consult your diabetologist & modify your treatment & get the blood sugar to the desired & controlled levels on an immediate basis.
Next consult your Ophthalmologist to find out the cause of rapidly deteriorating vision.
The ophthalmologist will dilate your eyes as a complete Retina evaluation will help him to treat you better & find the extent of diabetic involvement in your eyes.
MOST COMMON CAUSES:
- DIABETIC MACULAR EDEMA: It is a swelling in the centre part of retina called macula. It can be treated with good tight diabetic control, lasers & Intravitreal Anti VEGF injections.
- DIABETIC VITREOUS HEMORRHAGE: In this there in sudden bleeding in Vitreous cavity of eye because of damage to the blood vessels on retina. This requires either a medical treatment or surgery depending on severity of hemorrhge.
- DIABETIC TRACTIONAL DETACHMENT: Wherein the fibrous membranes formed in diabetic retinopathy start pulling on the retina causing Retinal Detachment. This requires a surgical intervention.
- DIABETIC CATARACTS: Which happens at an earlier age than usual & it requires a surgical approach.
- NEOVASCULAR GLAUCOMA: Causing sudden pressure build up in eyes which causes Corneal Edema (fluid collection in front surface of eye) in turn causing rapidly blurry vision.
